A slight variation on the "Nomads (Hitchin) Cycling Club Rough Riders Scratch and Team Race" from 28th February 1937. Look for the "2013 Edition" in the Off-road section of the Route Library, which is found at our web site. A GPX file is there and the link below takes you straight to the map. Meet on the Market Square with the roadies for 0900 as usual. Course is 24 miles and does not include a cafe stop, so bring a picnic in your jersey pocket. Our friends the Windmillers have been invited to join the Nomads on this occasion.

This is a social ride, not a race or training session, so no one gets dropped

Additional Information
Club runs begin in the Market Square, Hitchin on Sundays at 0900h, n.b.the first six rides of the year commence at 0930h.

The routes are published in the news section of this blog and are also circulated by email to club members. You can download GPS friendly GPX files from our download page, there are also links to the gmap-pedometer site. The pace varies depending on who is riding and the route to be tackled, so do come along and give it a go. Whether you are fast or not there'll generally be someone you can ride along with and either get the miles in, or get the cakes in at the cafe stops.

It is your responsibility to make sure your bike is in good working condition and capable of being ridden on the road at 15-20mph average. Bring a spare inner tube, multi-tool, tyre levers and enough drink and food to keep you fuelled for a couple of hours in the saddle. Do not assume that someone else will have the things that you will need. Additionally a mult-tool or Allen Keys always come in handy.

Coaching sessions

We run a series of British Cycling Go Ride sessions throughout the year. The programme is developed and accredited by the national governing body, British Cycling - Go Ride programme is designed to teach skills that will help all riders improve their core skills, bike handling and group riding abilities. It's not just for kids, you are never too old to learn.

Sportives

We organise a Sportive which takes place in Spring or early Summer. Many of our riders take part in Sportive too, either as a main focus or as a secondary means of getting some miles in.
